Check out our upcoming events at The North Carolina Estuarium!

Besides our educational pontoon River Roving tours that run from spring-fall every week, we also have many events throughout the year as well! Every year, we have an End of Summer craft party on our back deck the Friday before school goes back for our local county, where we release our resident butterflies we have raised. It is called "The Bye Bye Butterfly Party"! Below are some highlights from this year, it was held on August 23rd this year. We also have events planned for National Estuaries Week 2024, as well as our annual Halloween event, The ESTU-SCARE-IUM, which will be on Thursday, October 17th. Our monthly lecture will be October 10th, the topic is ZOMBIE CRABS. More info below.

You can keep up with our events and happenings around here also on our Facebook and Instagram pages, the links for that are below!

Zombie Crab Lecture (3).png

Parasites are vital members of communities, but we still have a lot to learn about their influence on hosts and other community members.

Dr. Blakeslee and her students will talk about their research on body-snatching parasites that create zombie crabs, species invasions that may carry with or leave behind parasites, and how parasites can be important conservation indicators.

One of the missions of the Blakeslee lab is to heighten awareness of the importance of parasites to ecosystems, and to demonstrate how fascinating and interesting parasites can be!

Join us on the evening of October 10th at 6 PM

in our auditorium for this informative lecture!
